Finn Juhl was born on 30 of January in 1912.His father is a business man mainly sold textile from English,Scottish and Swiss manufacturers to Denmark and his mother died shortly after his birth.At first he wanted to become a historian and finally persuaded him to choose design as his major.In 1930,he was admitted by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts where studied for four years and was under the instruction of Kay Fisker,a famous architect.

Finn Juhl was born on 30 of January in 1912.His father is a business man mainly sold textile from English,Scottish and Swiss manufacturers to Denmark and his mother died shortly after his birth.At first he wanted to become a historian and finally persuaded him to choose design as his major.In 1930,he was admitted by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts where studied for four years and was under the instruction of Kay Fisker,a famous architect.

After Graduation,Juhl worked at Vilhelm Lauritzen’s architecural firm for almost ten years,where he participated a lot of interior design of the national Danish broadcaster building,which is the most famous project that this company did during that time.And because of this project, Finn Juhl received the C.F.Hansen prize for young architects.

He left this design firm in 1945 and began his own business on interior design and furniture design.At first,Finn Juhl’s work met a lot of criticism.However ,gradually Juhl’s work became influential in the home styles worldwide in 1940s although in Denmark he was not so famous.The iconic chair NV45 lounge chair was designed at that time.

At the Milan Triennale in the 1950s,he won five gold medals,which helped him won more international reputation.And he designed so many items for mass production.

Except interior design and furniture, he also designed refrigerators for the General Electric,glassware and ceramics.

In 1960s and 1970s,it seems that he lost much interest in designing and did not have a lot of works until 1980s and 1990s.In 2010,he designed one sofa which was produced by Danish furniture factory named Onecollection.This sofa got a Wallpaper Design Award in the best sofa design category.
